RELIANT TECHNOLOGIES, INC. WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER GLEN NELSON, MD

SAN DIEGO - November 17, 2004. Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of the breakthrough Fraxel SR Laser to treat aging and sun-damaged skin, announced today that Glen Nelson, MD, former vice chairman of Medtronic, Inc., has joined its Board of Directors.

Nelson, who served as Medtronic's vice chairman from 1988 until his retirement in 2002, brings decades of leadership in emerging medical technologies as well as an extensive surgical background to Reliant Technologies at a time when the company is poised for tremendous growth. As a key leader of the Medtronic acquisitions team, Dr. Nelson helped acquire more than 100 companies, minority investments, technologies, and licenses.

"Dr. Nelson's contributions to our company will be invaluable as we enter a revolutionary new age of laser technology," said Maynard A. Howe, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Reliant. "His understanding and enthusiasm of our new laser system is unsurpassed. A vote of confidence in our technology from someone as esteemed in the medical device industry as Dr. Nelson is extremely encouraging as we move forward in advancing Fraxel Laser Treatment in 2005."

Dr. Nelson credits Reliant with the insight to develop a "smarter" and safer laser system than those currently on the market. This intelligent approach using fractional science allows the physician to "air brush" away sun-damage and pigmented lesions - spot by spot, pixel by pixel - with minimal downtime, rapid healing and enhanced patient results.

"Reliant has successfully engineered the first laser delivery system to treat the skin with a high degree of precision and thus provoke a consistent response in tissue that can be repeated with accuracy for each patient's treatment cycle," said Dr. Nelson. "It is exciting to join a company as innovative as Reliant and to be able to participate in bringing better solutions to patients using evolving and dynamic laser technology."

Prior to joining Medtronic, Dr. Nelson practiced surgery from 1969 to 1986 and served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Park Nicollet Medical Center - a large multi-specialty group practice in Minneapolis - from 1975 to 1986. He was also chairman of the board and chief executive officer of American MedCenters, a managed care organization, from 1984 to 1986.

Dr. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota.
